With the achievement of winning the F1 racing championship 7 times, Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton has just been knighted by the British Royal Family. From now on, please refer to Lewis as “Mr. Hamilton”.
British F1 driver Lewis Hamilton was recently knighted by Britain’s Prince Charles in an investiture ceremony at Windsor Castle in England.
This 36-year-old Mercedes team driver holds the record for the most race wins with 103 times and 7 F1 championships, equal to legendary German driver Michael Schumacher.
Hamilton is the fourth F1 driver to be knighted after Jack Brabham, Australian Stirling Moss and three-time champion Jackie Stewart. He is also the first person of color and the only person to receive this noble title while still driving.
Other famous sportsmen who have been knighted by the British Empire are Bradley Wiggins, cycling’s Tour de France champion, Olympic 5,000 and 10,000 meter gold medalist Mo Farah, tennis player two-time Wimbledon champion Andy Murray and English cricketer Alastair Cook.
