Is there still a spark in Tiger Woods? Most likely! What other explanation is there for sharing his enthusiasm for golf? Due to injuries and surgery, he missed several months of 2023 with the Greens, but he returned for two games at the end of the season. The 48-year-old will play in the Genesis Invitational to kick out his 2024 PGA Tour career. Of course, it will leave many wondering if he’s still capable of the same kind of work!
That question, though, still has no clear answer. It will be helpful, nevertheless, to review Woods’ previous results at the Riviera Country Club. Surprisingly, the figures are not what the renowned golfer’s fans will have anticipated!
The 48-year-old finds great significance in the occasion. The American golfer played his first-ever PGA Tour tournament in 1992 at this very same golf course. He began holding the same event in 2020, which is over 28 years later. He has never won the trophy at this event, despite the fact that it is significant to his career.
The American golfer has made 14 appearances at this competition. Beginning in 2007, Tiger Woods did not compete in this tournament for ten years. However, he went back to the historic occasion in 2018. But once more, health problems kept him from the 2021 and 2022 events. His most recent attendance occurred during a forgotten performance he gave last year.
His finest performance in all 14 outings occurred in the previous millennium. He finished in second place after losing to Billy Mayfair in the playoffs in 1998. The 48-year-old’s full list of stars from the Riviera Country Club event is seen below.
The 48-year-old hopes to improve on his best result from last year at the Genesis Invitational. It’s interesting to note that the Riviera Country Club event winner’s list is missing one more well-known name.
The 15-time major champion has never taken home the trophy, but he shares the same fate as his idol, Jack Nicklaus. Only one runner-up place has been achieved by the two of them at the event, with Nicklaus’ coming in 1978.
Remarkably, a large number of the golfers who have won this competition are currently in the breakaway league. Players that compete in LIV Golf include Joaquin Niemann (2022), Dustin Johnson (2017), Phil Mickelson (2008, 2009), Bubba Watson (2014, 2016, 2018), and the reigning champion Jon Rahm.
Three-time winners Bubba Watson, Ben Hogan, and Arnold Palmer are the only players with this distinction. Hogan was the first to accomplish so, thus the name “Hogan’s Alley” for the course. However, the event host is still without a first-place finish.
