After Surpassing 1000 Days as a Champion, Roman Reigns Registers Yet Another Record to His Name but Not an Ideal One

Roman Reigns is unquestionably a tough act to follow. He has been breaking records and setting new milestones since becoming the WWE’s torchbearer. His character is well-protected by the wrestling promotion. Reigns’ indomitable reign as the top champion of the WWE started when he claimed the Universal Championship in 2020.

He went on to cement his place as one of the greatest wrestlers of all time by defeating Brock Lesnar in a winner-take-all match and becoming the WWE Undisputed Universal Champion. Having said that, he recently passed another milestone that has earned him a lot of flak from the WWE Universe.

Roman Reigns breaks an unwanted record

At Night of Champions, Roman Reigns made history, with a spring in his step, by reaching the 1000-day mark as the Universal Champion. The Tribal Chief recently deposed Pedro Morales as WWE’s fifth-longest reigning title holder, having held the title for 1,042+ days. Make no mistake, Reigns has proven his dominance over megastars like Brock Lesnar and Goldberg. But, as impressive as his current reign is, he has also become something of a closet Champion.

Roman Reigns has now gone over 100 days without defending his coveted WWE Undisputed Universal Championship. To be precise, today marks Reigns’ 104th day without defending his Championship. There’s no denying that Reigns is as fierce as they come. He is, hands down, the most successful heel in WWE at present. But, the Head of the Table has been dodging title matches for some time.

His last televised title defense came at WrestleMania 39 when he retained his Championship against the 2023 Royal Rumble winner, Cody Rhodes. It should be noted that Roman Reigns defended his championship against Rey Mysterio at a recent house show, but the match didn’t air on television.

Nevertheless, the WWE Undisputed Universal Championship has remained on the ‘Island of relevancy’ for the longest time. Up until now, Reigns has been resting on his throne. But, SummerSlam will finally see the champion put his title at stake.

Reigns will seemingly defend his championship against Jey Uso at SummerSlam

Although it has not been confirmed yet, Jey Uso is slated to come face-to-face with Roman Reigns on the upcoming edition of SmackDown. Their face-off will set the stage for their much-anticipated match at SummerSlam. After mounting a mutiny against the Tribal Chief, Jey Uso intends to stop at nothing to dethrone his cousin.

After Money in the Bank, Jey Uso proved to the WWE Universe that Reigns was not unbeatable, handing the latter his first-ever pinfall loss in three years. At this point, the question arises whether Jey Uso has what it takes to dethrone The Tribal Chief. Or will his hands be too short to box with a God Mode Roman Reigns at SummerSlam? We will have to wait and watch.
