Denis Villeneuve predicted Zendaya’s directorial debut after observing her closely on the set of Dune: Part Two.
The prediction comes during an engaging appearance of Dune’s director on The Director’s Cut podcast with Steven Spielberg, he was inquired by a fellow filmmaker if he has worked with any potential directors.
The Canadian filmmaker was quick to name-drop the Challengers actress after expressing admiration for her professionalism and dedication to her work.
“The truth … there’s someone that spent a lot of time behind the camera listening, Zendaya”, he mentioned.
Highlighting her curiosity and interest in the filmmaking process, he added, “She’s so clever, but shows she’s brilliant in her strong presence, and she was always on set even when she was not shooting.”
“Just sitting between [cinematographer] Greg [Fraser] and I listening, listening and listening. So I would not be surprised that one day we learn that she wants to go behind [the camera].”
Prompting Spielberg to joke, “See if Zendaya is available…”
It is worth mentioning that Zendaya has already begun exploring career beyond acting having served as an executive producer for the second season of HBO’s Euphoria as well as producing Kevin Turen, Ashley Levinson, Sam Levinson, John David Washington and Scott Mescudi for Netflix’s Malcolm & Marie in 2021.
Now, Denis’s comment underscored Zendaya’s versatility and potential in the industry. And while she has garnered a claim for her acting prowess, her behind-the-scenes experience could lead to a future role as director.
