Tyson Fury may decide to face Anthony Joshua despite having a rematch contract with Usyk

According to his promoter, TYSON FURY may fight Anthony Joshua in a thrilling Battle of Britain before taking on Oleksandr Usyk again.

On May 18, Fury and Usyk, who are 35 and 37 years old, respectively, will compete for the title of heavyweight champion in a lucrative Saudi bout.

The two are obligated by contract to rematch following their brawl in Riyadh, most likely around the end of the year.

However, Fury’s co-promoter Bob Arum said that Joshua may replace Fury if Saudi boxing mogul Turki Alalshikh want to see the bout go place next.

He questioned The Daily Mail, “What happens if Fury-Usyk turns out to be a classic?”

“A fight that is so exciting and so thrilling that the public wants to see it again.”That would therefore definitely be more important than a match between Joshua and it is mandated by contract.

What would happen now if Fury won a bout that was only won by him?

Maybe then everyone may meet with His Excellency Turki Alalshikh and make plans to go directly to Fury-Joshua.

“I doubt there would be much interest in a Usyk-Joshua showdown if Usyk triumphs, as Usyk destroyed Joshua twice in their prior bout.

Matchroom Boxing CEO Hearn told talkTV’s Piers Morgan in an odd question on darts player Luke Littler that he thinks the best fight in the sport would happen before the end of 2024.

“I’m going to say that Fury vs. AJ happens this year because the Darts Championship takes place in December and January,” he stated.

“So I’m gonna say Fury vs AJ [happens first].”

Joshua and Fury signed a big two-fight contract in the summer of 2020, but they haven’t even approached the canvas.

Scuppered their two-fight series, former WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder won his arbitration for a trilogy match vs The Gypsy King.

Joshua, 34, is back in the running for the world championship after an incredible 2023 in which he won three straight convincing fights.

And when he decisively ended former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou in the second round of their fight in Saudi Arabia last month, he earned his third consecutive knockout victory.
