Full House creator Jeff Franklin has put his massive Beverly Hills mansion on the market for a whopping $85 million.
The 66-year-old filmmaker and screenwriter’s plans for a big move were shared by real estate sources with TMZ on Wednesday.
The property has a gruesome history, as the mansion was built on the site where Sharon Tate and four friends were brutally murdered by followers of Charles Manson in 1969.
Franklin also opened up his home recently for a reception for family members of the late comedian Bob Saget, who died on January 9 at 65 while in Orlando, Florida, in the midst of a standup tour.
Saget starred as patriarch Danny Tanner on Franklin’s series Full House and its Netflix continuation Fuller House, and he was also a respected standup comedian known for his edgy routines.
The new owners of the mansion — which is located near Benedict Canyon — could easily get lost amid its 21,000 square feet, and the home boasts nine bedrooms and 18 bathrooms.
The home is tucked away on close to 3.6 acres, and the listing is being handled by Million Dollar Listing Los Angeles star Josh Altman and his brother Matthew Altman for Douglas Elliman.
Its position high in the hills gives the Cielo Drive property ‘jetliner’ views of surrounding Los Angeles.
Franklin purchased the property two decades ago for around $6 million dollars, but the mansion was only partly built at the time.
It took millions of dollars more and several years to complete the home, and the television fixture wasn’t able to move in until 2007, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Franklin seemed uninterested in the properties history as the site of the Manson murders, calling them ‘irrelevant’ and ‘ancient history’.
Sharon Tate, an actress on the rise and the wife of director Roman Polanski, was murdered on August 9 by members of the Manson Family.
Abigail Folger, Steven Parent, Wojciech Frykowski and Jay Sebring, who were all spending time with Tate at the time, where also killed.
The Manson family was a cult led by criminal mastermind Charles Manson that was based California in the late 1960s and early 1970s. The group included roughly 100 followers at its largest, and lived a hippie, communal lifestyle with regular use of hallucinogenic drugs, particularly LSD.
The ‘family’ mostly consisted of young, impressionable women, as well as some men, who were radicalized by Manson and began to carry out a string of crimes, including thefts, arson and murders.
The suspects told police they had killed Tate and her friends not because of who they were, but because of the home they were in, which had belonged to a previous acquaintance of Manson.
A subsequent owner of the property had the house where the murders took place demolished in the 1990s, and Franklin’s home was later built atop it.
Franklin noted that he completed the mansion using a variety of multicultural styles.
‘I wanted to incorporate all the influences that I love from various cultures around the world,’ he told the Journal. In addition to plenty of European and Asian elements, ‘there’s a lot of California Casual, and then we add SeaWorld,’ he said, referring to the properties six aquariums.
He also expressed his love of underwater wildlife with a relaxing koi pond and a shark tank.
Franklin said he was giving up his California home as part of his move to Miami, Florida.
His estate features abundant luxuries, including a movie theater, a billiards room and a well-stocked bar.
There’s plenty of room for pampering and personal care thanks to the mansion’s spa and hair salon, and it also features a built-in gym.
Visitors entering through the front entrance will come across the elegant curving staircase, located under the mansion’s eye-catching dome ceiling.
The kitchen features gorgeous custom-made wood cabinet and top-of-the-line stainless appliances, along with large windows for plenty of natural light and a great view of the city.
The master bathroom includes more stunning views of the neighborhood and a large walk-in shower.
Living areas feature stylish coffered ceilings, and the open floor plan makes them even more spacious.
The back yard’s 75-foot pool is ideal for getting in a workout while staying cool, and there are plenty of other ways to beat the heat with the properties three waterfalls, two jacuzzis and a water slide.
Pool parties are guaranteed to be raucous due to the swim-up bar in the pool.
Those looking to simply relax can gaze upon the aforementioned koi pond or get out of the sun in a hidden-away grotto, or just float endlessly on a lazy river.
The yard includes plenty of entertaining space for even gatherings with multiple fire pits and a barbecuing area.
As if the nine bedrooms weren’t enough for guests, there’s also a guest house for visitors needing even more privacy and space.
Parking is handled below ground with a garage with space for 16 cars, but there is room for up to 35 vehicles if some are parked above ground on the driveway.
The Altman brothers boasted of mansion’s ‘entertainment’ value to the Journal.
‘The entertainment aspect of this house is untouchable by any other house in LA, except for one other place that I have partied at: the Playboy Mansion,’ Josh Altman said. ‘The pool makes the ones at most of the resorts you’ve ever been at look small.’
