Round 2 of The Masters: Tiger Woods’ new history

Who is the first to arrive at the practice field? The person who has won the most victories. It was just dawn at the Augusta course and Tiger Woods warmed up before 7 a.m. (local time; early morning April 13, Hanoi time).

The champion of 15 Major tournaments faces a difficult day with 23 holes ahead, including 5 holes in the opening round that were not completed because of darkness.

For the 48-year-old man who had to go to the operating room dozens of times and whose body was full of stitches, the second day of competition required very good preparation.

The cold penetrated into the bones, especially in the right leg that was broken in a traffic accident in 2021.

When his body is tired and his legs are no longer the same as before, only his infinite passion for golf matches and desire to win will help him stand firm at The Masters 2024.

Without any noise, “Super Tiger” moved slowly on the Augusta grass. He walked with some difficulty, pain clearly visible on his face.

In the last 5 holes of round 1, with strong winds continuing to blow through Augusta, Woods had bogeys at holes 14 and 18.

No matter, Woods refused to give up. He only had 50 minutes to start round 2. Tiger’s body couldn’t stand the cold so he couldn’t lie down to rest.

Woods uses a sandwich and drinks water while exercising at the practice area. He is patient to play again.

The next story is like a rollercoaster: birdie in hole 3, consecutive bogeys in holes 4 and 5, birdie in hole 6, bogey in hole 7, birdie in hole 8 and saved par in hole 9.

The script excited fans, depicting a golfer who has magic in his hands but cannot completely control his game because of his physical condition.

Another bogey at hole 14, birdie at hole 15, Woods closed the two rounds of competition with a final score of +1, enough to write a new history page at Augusta: the 24th consecutive time in his career he passed the cut.

That is the record at The Masters, surpassing the 23 consecutive times of Gary Player and Fred Couples.

Since registering to compete as a professional in 1997, he has always entered two weekends of title contention (Woods only lost in 1996 as an amateur). This series of historic matches is half the life of “Super Tiger”.

After round 2, Max Homa rose to the top of the table with Bryson DeChambeau and Scottie Scheffler. All 3 currently have a score of -6.
