Eminem Adds 2 Nominations for 2024 MTV VMAs, Including Most Iconic Performance for “The Real Slim Shady” in 2000

Eminem is no stranger to the spotlight, but 2024 might just be his biggest year at the MTV VMAs yet. After already receiving six traditional nominations, the Rap God has just been added to two more categories: VMA Most Iconic Performance and Song of the Summer.

Let’s start with the iconic. Eminem’s unforgettable performance of “The Real Slim Shady” and “The Way I Am” from the 2000 VMAs is now running for Most Iconic Performance. For those who need a refresher, this was the moment when Em started outside Radio City Music Hall and made his way inside, flanked by a hundred Eminem lookalikes. It’s one of those VMA moments that people still talk about, and it’s clear why — no one’s ever done it quite like him. In fact, Em is the only male artist in this category, standing tall among legends like Beyoncé, Madonna, and Taylor Swift.

As if that wasn’t enough, Em’s latest hit, “Houdini”, has also snagged a nomination for Song of the Summer. Released as a lead single from his 12th studio album, “The Death of Slim Shady (Coup De Grace)”, the track has been dominating playlists and airwaves all season long.

Fans, get ready because MTV just announced a bonus week of voting across general categories, wrapping up on September 6 at 6 pm ET. And the battle for Most Iconic Performance kicks off on September 10, with 24 hours to vote via MTV Instagram stories. For those eager to crown the ultimate summer anthem, voting begins on September 6 and runs through September 10 in a bracket-style showdown, also on Instagram.

With these new nominations, Eminem now stands as the third most-nominated artist of the year, with eight nods, just behind Taylor Swift and Post Malone. If Em takes home even one award, he’ll break his tie with Peter Gabriel for the most VMAs won by a male artist in history — a record-breaking moment for sure.

The 2024 MTV VMAs are set to air live on September 11, and with Megan Thee Stallion hosting, it’s shaping up to be an epic night. Eminem’s already made history at the VMAs — could this be the year he gives us a new unforgettable moment? Well, it depends on our votes, so don’t waste time
