The Songwriters Hall of Fame has revealed its 2025 nominees, bringing together icons from hip hop, rock, and pop.

Eminem, Boy George, Janet Jackson, Alanis Morissette, and N.W.A. are among the eclectic group hoping to join past inductees like Jay-Z, Snoop Dogg, and Elton John. Established in 1969, the Hall honours songwriters with an enduring impact on popular music, with eligibility starting 20 years after a songwriter’s first commercial release.

This year’s ballot recognises not only solo stars but also influential groups and songwriting duos who have left their mark on music history.

Eminem’s nomination highlights his lyrical mastery with songs like “Lose Yourself” and “Stan”. Fresh from her Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction, Sheryl Crow is also celebrated for her signature hits like “All I Wanna Do”. At the same time, Alanis Morissette, with her groundbreaking “Jagged Little Pill”, joins the list of artists who’ve redefined the sound of a generation.

Hip hop pioneers N.W.A., including Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, and the late Eazy-E, bring more genre diversity to the line-up, further highlighting the Hall’s growing recognition of hip hop’s lyrical legacy.

Voting members have until late December to cast their ballots, with the final selections joining past honourees like Carole King, Paul Simon, and last year’s inductees, R.E.M. and Steely Dan. With a line-up, this packed, 2025’s class promises to be another celebration of musical storytelling and lyrical talent.
