Al-Ittihad plot swoop for ANOTHER Liverpool star as they ‘sound out move for Ibrahima Konate’, with Saudi side already attempting to lure Mo Salah and Joe Gomez away from Reds

Al-Ittihad have sounded out a move for yet another Liverpool player, with the Saudi Arabian side interested in Ibrahima Konate.

With the PIF-funded team already plotting a massive move for Mo Salah, they are targeting another of Jurgen Klopp’s side, according to RMC.

They report that Al-Ittihad are moving on after a huge offer was rejected by Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo and have identified Konate as another option, also holding an interest in Joe Gomez.

The Frenchman has three years left on his current deal and remains a key part of Jurgen Klopp’s plans, making it highly unlikely that he would leave.

No doubt the Reds will not welcome more unsettling attention on another of their stars, having already insisted Salah is not for sale.

The reigning Saudi Pro League champions are attempting to make the Egyptian the highest-paid player in the country.

Al-Ittihad have already signed Fabinho from the Reds this summer and evidently Nuno Espirito Santo’s side want to raid the Premier League outfit again.

Gomez would appear to be the more likely of the two centre-backs to leave given he started just 15 Premier League games last season and is keen to play more regular football.

But with Liverpool interested in bringing in another defender, it would make little sense to weaken themselves further at the back.

Virgil van Dijk’s red card in the 2-1 win over Newcastle at St James’ Park also makes it less likely that Gomez will depart, in addition to the fact that he can operate as a right-back when needed.

As the transfer deadline closes in, all eyes will be on Salah in what could be a dramatic couple of days.

Jamie Carragher believes it would take £150m for Liverpool to part ways and claims the right winger ‘is not going anywhere’.

And Chris Sutton thinks he would be ‘doing Liverpool dirty’, telling Mail Sport’s brand new podcast It’s All Kicking Off that the Egyptian would be leaving them in the lurch.

Liverpool have enormous riches in the attacking end of the pitch but Salah remains the jewel in the crown.

His durability and consistent output from the flank makes him vital to Liverpool’s aspirations and it would surely be too late in the transfer window to replace him.

Even though the Reds are putting their foot down,  former Premier League midfielder Jan Aage Fjortoft claims he is likely to depart before the transfer window closes.

‘I understand it’s likely that Salah will leave Liverpool this week,’ he wrote on Twitter.
