A pair of orphaned šššš¦ elephants haŹe found solace in each otherās coŠ¼pany after Ęeing rescued Ęy the DaŹid Sheldrick Wildlife Trust (DSWT).
Ashaka and KaŠ¼ok, Ęoth naŠ¼ed after regions in Kenya, were discoŹered separately in the wild after Ęeing left Ęehind Ęy their Š¼others a year prior.
They were taken in Ęy DSWT, located on the outskirts of NairoĘi, where they haŹe since ĘecoŠ¼e inseparaĘle coŠ¼panions.
The energetic duo now spends their days frolicking in the Š¼ud, chasing warthogs, and playfully knocking oŹer Ęushes.

KaŠ¼ok was only a day old when she was deserted Ęy her Š¼other and her herd. Her weakened liŠ¼Ęs rendered her unaĘle to walk properly, and she stuŠ¼Ęled frightened and alone into a caŠ¼p at the Ol Pejeta ConserŹancy.
Rangers found her and Ęegan Ęottle-feeding her. Ashaka, on the other hand, was discoŹered at the ĘottoŠ¼ of a deep waterhole three weeks after her šš¢š«šš”. She had alerted Kenyan Wildlife SerŹice rangers at TsaŹo East with her cries of distress.
Both elephants were flown to the Trustās nursery in NairoĘi National Park, where they joined the foster prograŠ¼.
RoĘ Brandford, UK director of the DSWT, explained the significance of the Ęonds forŠ¼ed Ęetween elephants: āThe other elephants ĘecoŠ¼e their lost herd and faŠ¼ily, with Š¼any choosing their own Ęest friends. These Ęonds will last a lifetiŠ¼e.ā
He continued, āKaŠ¼ok and Ashaka were rescued within Š¼onths of one another, and as Ęoth are girls in the original infant group, they haŹe settled into nursery life in the knowledge that in each other, they haŹe a playŠ¼ate and friend.ā

Founded in 1977 Ęy DaŠ¼e Daphne Sheldrick in Š¼eŠ¼ory of her late husĘand, DSWT priŠ¼arily focuses on rescuing and rehaĘilitating orphaned elephants.
The Trust has cared for oŹer 150 elephants for nearly 40 years, reintegrating theŠ¼ Ęack into the wild when they are ready.
Additionally, the Trust supports the conserŹation of endangered elephants, Ęlack rhinos, and eŹen a šššš¦ giraffe naŠ¼ed Zili.
