Stunning seven-bedroom Golden State home designed by iconic architect Frank Lloyd Wright that sits on 46 acres goes on sale for $4.25 million

One of Frank Lloyd Wright’s exquisitely-designed homes is now on the market in California and can be yours for $4.25 million.

The ‘Fawcett House,’ a seven-bedroom and six bathroom home located in California’s Central Valley, was recently listed and is perfect for anyone who likes to blend indoor and outdoor living.

‘We have no longer an outside and an inside as two separate things. Now the outside may come inside, and the inside may and does go outside,’ the famed architect said of the home, according to Frank Lloyd Wright Building Conservancy.

The home, located 120 miles southeast of San Francisco, is one of many designed by the architect whose designs were lauded for their open and light concepts.

Other properties designed by Wright have sold for anywhere from a mere $725,000 to one currently listed at $7.95 million.

The Los Banos home is sited on 76 acres of land in the Central Valley and in 2019 won the California Preservation Design Award for Restoration.

It almost didn’t come to fruition, however.

After the land’s owner, Buck Fawcett, pitched the site to Wright, the architect said he didn’t want to do it: ‘Not much beauty there.’

‘Actually, Mr. Wright, the Central Valley of California contains the most fertile agricultural land in the world, and you should consider it an honor to build a house there,’ Fawcett responded.

Wright’s interest was piqued and it ended up being one of the only homes situated on open acres of land the architect designed in his lifetime.

The stunning house is also considered one of the best examples of Wright’s signature ‘Usonian’ home.

The term refers to sixty or so middle-income houses designed by Wright.

Usonian homes are typically smaller, often single-story properties without a garage.

They are mostly L-shaped to fit around a garden terrace and rely on solar heating and natural cooling, meaning more windows and doors.

‘A strong visual connection between the interior and exterior spaces is an important characteristic of all Usonian homes,’ the California Preservation Foundation notes.

That was the intention, according to the Frank Lloyd Wright Building Conservancy.

‘They are of each other. Form and function thus become one in design and execution if the nature of materials and method and purpose are all in unison,’ Wright said.

Photos of the property shared by Zillow Gone Wild, a social media page that highlights interesting and sometimes hilarious listings, this week.

The pictures clearly display the abundance of natural light the home sees from the plethora of windows.

The home has big, open spaces and long narrow all enshrined by light.

The 1955 build caught the attention of some social media users who were taken by the home’s beauty, as well as the sheer number of windows.

‘So if I buy this house does that mean I have to stop throwing rocks?’ joked one person.

‘Love everything about it, but someone else will have to clean all those windows and glass doors!!’ someone commented.

Wright is often credited as one of the greatest American architects of all time.

The designer died in 1959 at the age of 91.

His illustrious career included 1,100 designs and more than 500 projects.

Eight of his buildings were added to UNESCO’s World Heritage list as cultural sites – perhaps the most famous among them the Guggenheim Museum on Fifth Avenue in New York City.

More than a third of Wright’s remaining 409 structures are included on the National Register of Historic Places or are in a National Historic District.

Arguably the most famous private creation, Fallingwater outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania was once named the ‘best all-time work of American architecture’ by the American Institute of Architects.

The home was built for the Kaufman family, who owned the largest department store in Pittsburgh, in the 1930s.

The home is breathtakingly set atop a live waterfall in a wooded area.

Millions have visited the house since it opened to the public nearly 60 years ago.
