On the heels of the tragic loss of her friend and former co-producer DJ Stephen ‘tWitch’ Boss, it’s been revealed that Ellen DeGeneres and her wife, Portia de Rossi, paid a record $70 million for two side-by-side properties in the upscale seaside enclave of Carpinteria, California.
They bought the first property for $41.7 million. It features a Tuscan farmhouse-style mansion on 3.4 acres, according to Siteline Santa Barbara.
And the second property, next door, they got for $28.2 million. That’s for a vacant 6.6-acre plot of land, which comes with expansive lawns and a lake.
That deal represents the most ever paid for a Santa Barbara-area estate, eclipsing the $63 million that billionaire Riley Bechtel and his wife Susan paid for a much larger Montecito ranch two years ago.
“This home is an inspired masterpiece of quality and craftmanship. On three prestigious Padaro Lane acres, this property is a harmonious blend of contrasts: it is rustic yet sophisticated; grand yet comfortable; state-of-the-art, yet sheer artistry,” the previous listing noted of the $41.7 million property, which was first listed for $60 million.
Made up of six bedrooms and nine baths, the home spans more than 9,000 square feet.
The property features a family room with fireplace, two butlers pantries, raised herb and vegetable gardens off the kitchen — and a great room with a walk-in antique fireplace, mosaic dormers and heavy beam work, the previous listing noted.
The primary bedroom features dual baths and walk-in closets, a private outdoor spa and a fountain off the dual baths.
Amenities include a movie theater, a wine cellar, a pool, two spas, an outdoor shower and a fire pit.
The previous listing also highlighted 150-year old olive trees surrounding the property, and a driveway entry that boasts hundred-year-old imported granite cobblestones.
The moves comes as DeGeneres, 64, and de Rossi, 49, have made several real estate transactions in the past year alone — which includes selling and buying more property.
It’s likely they will eventually flip this property as well, considering their past patterns in real estate.
The two currently own a cottage in the Hedgerow District of Montecito currently on the market for $5.8 million. Additionally, they own two other Montecito cottages and a horse ranch.
