Back in 1990, soon after his divorce from Mimi Rogers, fans found the perfect ship as the next best power couple in Hollywood: Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman. A pair like one made in heaven, these two lovebirds were seen together almost everywhere and fans couldn’t help but swoon looking at them being so in love with each other.
But then something went wrong, and this ship crashed.
While that came as a devastating blow to his fans, friends, and family, it seems that Cruise was even more heartbroken by how the course of events had turned out for him and his now ex-wife back in the day.
In fact, if anything, the heart-rending way he responded to questions about their split during interviews perfectly sums up the love and utter respect he had for Kidman in his heart.

After more than a decade of being truly, madly, crazy, deeply in love, this perfectly shipped power duo from Hollywood decided to call it quits for a reason that Kidman later claimed during a 2013 interview with Vanity Fair to be: “I was a child, really, when I got married. And I needed to grow up.”
But it seems it all hit Cruise a bit too hard than it did Kidman.
This comes after the response the actor had when asked to address just why he and his longtime love decided to split during a 2002 interview with Vanity Fair, around a year after the pair’s breakup. Back then, the Mission: Impossible star had said:
She knows why, and I know why. She’s the mother of my children, and I wish her well.
Needless to say, his statement perfectly explains just how much he loved and respected his ex-wife even after they decided to end their relationship — more than just enough to let their private fiascos go public.
In fact, Tom Cruise was so tight-lipped about it all — presumably in respect of protecting his own and Kidman’s privacy — that he refused to let even his fans know the reason why when probed further by the interviewer if it all happened due to some event.
Instead, he just repeated his previous statement and continued to say:
I don’t care if it piques people’s interest. Honestly, people should mind their own damn business. And get a life of their own…. My personal life isn’t here to sell newspapers.
All of this said, it is only understandable just how tired celebrities like him must get while addressing matters that are personal and that presumably hurt them to even talk about, for one thing.
For other, Cruise had something more to say on this matter that further proved just how gutted he was because of how things turned out to be between him and Kidman.

Besides telling people to mind their own damn business and protecting both his and Nicole Kidman‘s privacy, Cruise seemingly hinted at what may have become a hindrance in their so-in-love relationship while it lasted, all the while further sounding as shattered as ever.
According to what he said during the same interview:
I think that you just move on. And I don’t say that lightly. I don’t say that with anything. Things happen in life, and you do everything you can, and in every possible way, and there’s a point at which you just sometimes have to face the brutal reality.
Well, for whatever it is worth, Tom Cruise has stayed as incredibly tight-lipped about his split with Nicole Kidman as ever even after the passing of more than two decades, and the reason behind this could undoubtedly be because of the love and respect he still holds in his heart for his ex-wife.
