One of Eminem’s most popular tracks, “Rap God”, has officially surpassed the 1.4 billion views mark on YouTube.
Originally released in 2013 as part of his critically acclaimed album, “The Marshall Mathers LP 2,” “Rap God” quickly became one of people’s favourites.
It was difficult to predict, as “Rap God” has it all. It showcases Eminem at his lyrical best. His rapid-fire delivery, complex wordplay, and clever metaphors leave listeners in awe of his technical skills. The song’s infectious chorus gets stuck in your head long after you finish listening. It’s a testament to Eminem’s ability to blend lyrical complexity with mainstream appeal.
And while the title suggests an ode to self-importance, “Rap God” actually tackles themes of insecurity and the pressure of maintaining one’s position at the top. This resonates with fans who can relate to the constant struggle to prove themselves.
On top of it all, the inventive, complex visuals add appeal. So, while on Spotify, “Rap God” is Em’s ninth most streamed song, which topped 1 billion streams last year, on YouTube, “Rap God” is Marshall’s fourth most viewed music video, and it celebrated the milestone of 1 billion views in 2020.
